Today was all about diet! In nutrition we learned about formulating diets for dairy cows and calves and this evening we learned about evaluating dog and cat food diets with an excellent presentation and work shop by @royalcaninus .
We went over something in nutrition for dairy cows that I think is really vital to understand even for nutrition for other animals, especially horses and farm animals, but also including dogs, cats, and exotics. It’s this:

There are always 4 diets on a farm:
.
One diet you (or a company) formulate on a computer—it’s perfect
.
One diet gets mixed based on what the computer says—who mixed it? Did they pay attention?
.
One diet gets delivered to the animals—is that the same as the mixed diet? Did you pull from only the top of the bag?
.
One diet the animal eats—are they being choosy?
.
This is so, so important. Many diet issues in our animals stem from them not consuming their food appropriately, even if the food itself is perfect. If I set down a complete and balanced allowance of nutrients in front of you every day and it included candy and dinner rolls, do you think you’d fill up on those and leave the veggies alone? Probably. Animals will do the same thing. It’s vital that we ensure we not only formulate the right diet, but that they eat the right diet too.

I’ve seen this before in pet foods that have differently shaped pieces of kibble with some of them being “life bits” containing all the vitamins and minerals in the diet. Well, Bella decided those life bits were kind of bitter and she’s going to leave them in her bowl. She now is deficient in multiple nutrients.
.
This is where having a great relationship with your veterinarian and doing annual physicals is vital. We can catch problems hopefully as soon as they start and do some detective work to find out what might be missing, but sometimes it’s the simplest thing that causes the biggest issue.

  • Are you struggling to stay motivated or find motivation? One of the most important part to attaining progress in life in any area starts with the right mindset. That’s why it’s extremely important to feed your mind everyday. Sometimes we wake up and think that we are automatically going to feel like doing things (especially if it’s those things that aren’t the most fun part of our day but still has to be done) but that’s not always the case. People ask me all the time how do you stay motivated to keep working at your goals? I tell them I start by training my mind to stay motivated, by consistently looking at my goals or reading something positive or encouraging. Or I simply just start my day off with gratitude and thinking of all the things I am grateful for and understanding that what I get to do is a privilege...There’s someone around the world that wasn’t as fortunate as me to be where I am. They may not have the health that I have. They may not have the faith in god that I have or they may just don’t have the resources I’m able to access living here in America. So my tip for those out there who need to find motivation to keep working at your goals..start with why! Why do you have the goal to begin with? Knowing this is very important. Then next try and feed your mind every single day with things that will get you to consistently take action towards what you ultimately want in life. Never Settle!!! #thedevelopmentcoach -
