//: ⚡️I hope you are wide awake. It’s becoming increasingly dangerous to be a mother in America. The stressful reality that mothers face from the beginning of pregnancy through childcare and work is simply painful. Mothers are burning out and its not for lack of hard work, the system is rigged against hard working American mothers.
✨Pregnancy Discrimination is still a hot topic in American companies today. Employers must do better.
✨High Labor + Delivery Cost should not be the norm where health insurance companies shift and pull doctors in and out of network for their own gain. We need employers to work with them for a comprehensive fee for maternal care from start-to-finish. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨High Maternal Mortality Rate: This one is beyond. More women die in America than in any other developed country, and that rate continues to increase. Perhaps we should start with the high caesarean rate in this country. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨No guaranteed paid leave: despite 4 in 10 women being the primary breadwinner in this country and with over 70% of women with kids under 18 in the workforce, shame!
✨Breastfeeding is still frowned upon in public despite countless research that shows the benefits of breastfeeding for children and society at large.
✨Lack of mental health support: As mothers continue to go through the harsh realities of motherhood in America, postpartum anxiety and depression is on the rise and there is a complete disregard for this today in our society. Mothers are not getting the support that they need, period!
✨Childcare cost continues to cost more than a mortgage for most families, we must do better. Subsidized care, universal preschool to allow mothers get back to their profession and living a fulfilling life will be really helpful.
✨And lastly, the motherhood penalty which basically means that mothers are penalized for having children and men are not.
💛Your turn - what am I missing + what is your experience as a mother in America today. What can the govt and employers do?
Don’t spend your life doing what you think others expect of you. Live your life for yourself and what feels right to you. I’m so grateful to be in a position where with the support of my brilliant team and husband and support network I can get a real work-life balance. I’ve had my company for 12 years and whilst it’s true in the beginning you have to live and breathe your work to get it off the ground, for me real success isn’t purely financial. Money is great and essential but a truly successful life is a balanced one where you also have time for yourself, your family and your wellbeing and happiness. We are not machines and shouldn’t ever feel guilty for taking time for ourselves. I say this as someone who felt guilt for years if I took time away from work or wasn’t ‘achieving’ enough. So far 2020 has been brilliant- I’ve got time for exercise, horse riding (my old passion) my husband, kids, a bit of socialising and I’m enjoying life and work more than ever. I think as women especially we are programmed to feel guilty but it’s been a revelation for me that taking time for yourself is a wonderful thing and not something to feel ashamed about. #worklifebalance#reallife

The feelings of constant obligations — both in our personal and professionals lives — can lead anyone to the point of burnout. Burnout is real and no matter how great at handling stress you are, everyone needs a break. It’s important *not* to feel guilty about it. ✨Link in bio for “7 Activities That Help Me Turn Any Chill Night In Into A Special Occasion✨Illustration by @laurenverhage

//: Mothers reentering the working world after giving birth have a different set of challenge. The logistics of (1) preparing for the return to work (2) planning for childcare (3) prepping breast milk or formula requirements while gone (4) reconfiguring commute to ensure there is enough time to work and be back on time for pickups (5) trying to understand who drops off and pick up (6) mapping out sleep schedules to ensure there is enough time to feed and drop off (7) seeking pump rooms at work and scheduling that if necessary (8) re-engaging with co-workers and bosses (9) going through thousands of emails, accesses and missed trainings (10) understanding new work structures, and more! 💛 Whatelse am I missing mamas? I need us to curate these steps and figure out together how we can ease ourselves back into work and come up with action items for organizations in supporting mothers returning to work.

Mental Mastery 🧠 is everything!
Master thinking like a Billionaire... Even if you don't become one, I guarantee you will still build a better life than the one you had before. Know your worth no matter how you currently "feel". It all starts with your mindset... After that anything is possible! 💯

January blues? Sorted it.
Pink jumper. Pink house. Day off and doughnuts. 😌💗
Creating balance through the utter chaos in life. There is always a downside in being different and leading a life outside our societies ”should be’s” of life.
Let's commit to creating balance. Be kind, but do not let others abuse you. Trust, but do not be deceived. Be content, but never stop improving yourself.
The view from the Salon Window.
So glad the rain is slowly returning to Australia, it has felt impossible to post a view from the salon window while the fires, wildlife and families were on our minds. Everything else seemed to pale in comparison.
My lovely sister in law sent me this photo yesterday. One of me that I think sums up exactly how 2019 made me feel. It was a brief bumpy start...but with sheer determination it has been the most amazing year we could have hoped for. I can only but smile, and thank you, my amazing close loyal friends, clients, family and new business partners, you believed in me, and my business and backed me all the way. You have all left me feeling so bloody excited about 2020. Cheers to you!
This week has been full to the brim with the ups but behind the scenes a few downs. Last week we were going to revert back to normal trading hours, unfortunately shoulder pain made it quite difficult for me. I would like to say Thankyou to my junior staff that stepped up and supported me so the show could go on. This week with a full team back on board we will be finally going back to normal hours. Monday-Friday 6-2 and Weekends 6-12. Oh and I’m having a few days off to rest and recuperate. This year has been a whirlwind ride and next week is the icing on the cake. I can’t wait to share it with you. #haveahappyweek#lovetoall#happysunday#backtonormalhours#smallbusinesslife#lifeinhospo#bloodyshoulder#worklifebalance
