it’s so funny how we can get so caught up in how we look or how we think we look to others. i was looking at this photo and analyzing myself like “ugh why can’t i ever get rid of that pooch” or “maybe i need more cardio” or “do i need to eat different foods?” and tbh i do struggle with body image some days. on monday i felt hella lean and strong and then yesterday i was calling Kev to complain about how my body felt. some days i feel like a CRAZY WOMAN!! ha! but it’s true, we can be our own worst enemies - a reason i don’t think golf worked out for me because of how type a i was on the course. i tend to wonder where does this all or nothing mentality come from? why can’t i be happy every day and feel grateful to just move my body when others can’t? my “pooch” area has always been my sore spot. and honestly it’s a reason i get my bloodwork done to check on my hormone levels because i do want to make sure that i’m not having bloating due to irregular levels (because yes that’s a thing!). anyways i was hesitant to post this photo because i didn’t think i looked “lean enough” to preach the importance of weights or low impact exercises. but like HELLO people, being healthy is not based on how many muscles you can see. being healthy is eating with friends, drinking your margarita (skinny or not), getting enough sleep, having energy to just move, and managing anxiety/stress levels. it also LIGHTS ME UP 👏🏼 when you tag me in your incline walks. so just remember if you don’t have visible abs but can kill it in the gym - you’re strong, healthy and you’re enough 👊🏻 .

Muscle building finisher, add finishers to increase intensity in a workout!
Do 10 reps of each exercise, then immediately 9-8-7 etc down to 1, with no rest!

I find high intensity finishers a great way to maximize muscle fatigue in a workout.
I had just finished a boxing and upper body session, then added this in at the end.
Finishers are a great way to add that extra bit of volume and intensity to the end of a workout, the nature of constant work keeps your heart rate high throughout. I especially like doing push/pull supersets for finishers like I did here.
Try adding them in to your workouts!
The third thing I do to try to be healthier is taking what foods I eat and finding some way I can make them healthier without giving up the goodness of the dish. I might swap out regular pasta for veggie pasta or swap out white rice for brown rice. I have even switched to cooking with bone broth instead of chicken or beef broth. This gives me a few more nutrients. I even found a way to eat breakfast that my body agrees with. I was never big on it until I started making smoothies and even then it took time to find the right combination I could be happy with day after day. Adjusting our food intake is a never ending journey of change and discovery. I find if you approach that change on your terms and in your way then those changes are easier to make and keep.
Back thickness is starting to show 😁 nothing is bether then to see that your changes is making a difference! Gonna stick to what i am doing now for some time, and see if my "weak" points is coming along 😬 .
Why do some people get fat while others don’t?
Why do some people stay lean eating whatever they want, while others get fat just thinking about food?
Fixed minds will tell you it’s genetics. Fortunately, it’s not.
One of the key factors is insulin sensitivity. The higher your insulin sensitivity, the more you can eat without getting fat. And the good thing is that you can improve it. A highly effective method to do so is through concentric-dominant exercises. And that is what sled training is all about.

So listen up, just in case you didn’t hear me. I’ve been in the nutrition game for quite some time now and I’ve never heard anyone come to me and say “Jeff, I want to be 20-40 lbs overweight for the majority of the year and then use extreme methods for a few months to get temporary chiseled so I can take a bunch of pictures during these lean months and use them throughout the year pretending that this is the way I look year-round.”
Bulking and cutting started with male bodybuilders who would get down to 4-6% body fat on stage. Not only is this not sustainable, it’s not ideal for muscle building physiology (who would of guessed right?). So they’d bulk up during their off season with the intention of packing on as much muscle mass as possible by pushing themselves year-round. When they’d diet down again, they’d usually be rewarded with a slightly better physique than the last time around.
In working with literally hundreds of clients in the past year or so, I can say with great confidence that:
1️⃣most aren’t getting too low in body fat to where they can’t build muscle.
2️⃣most do not like the way they look during the off season.
3️⃣most do not train hard during the off season and only “turn it on” when they’re in the diet phase.
If you genuinely LOVE the way you look while you bulk and cut, POWER TO YOU & I’m HAPPY FOR YOU.
BUT a better approach for the masses is to first get to a bodyweight you’re comfortable with, then stay within 10% of that weight and gradually recomp.
This is what the vast majority of my clients do. They trained hard as hell year round and every few months looked better and better.
They didn’t live off of throwback Thursdays and flashback Fridays and could post a bikini shot any day of the week.
There’s no research I’m aware of on bulking and cutting, and a moderate approach is just as effective an extreme approach but without the drawbacks - which include psychological distress, increased appetite, reduced insulin sensitivity, increased fat cell number, and having to buy a new wardrobe.
Luckily for you my book teaches you how to do all of this properly.

Good morning... wait it’s almost 11 🤦🏼♀️ #aprilvacation vibes at its best. I slept in, haven’t yet showered today or even worked out. #iwokeuplikethis On the agenda today? Little bit of work on the blog (which I’ve been slacking on). I’ve learned so much in the past 4 months it’s ridiculous and I’m still learning and moving forward into my future. Literally taking @melrobbinslive advice and doing this brick by brick. Learning to slow down, learning to dig deep into my person and finding out by doing. This is gonna get messy, I’m gonna change directions a million times, I already have, but I need to explore. I have a wonderful (overly patient) husband and support system. He gets me on levels that really, maybe 1 or 2 other people could even fathom getting me on.
I’m not like other people. I’m not like other moms or women. I didn’t get the invite to that party. In fact when everyone is zigging I’m gonna be zagging. When everyone does one thing I don’t want the same. I naturally am this way. It’s not easy, I can’t help it. I don’t have the energy to jump on bandwagons. I’m not that girl. It complicates life a bit, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. ❤️ I will always be finding searching and digging into new ways, falling on my ass on purpose. Failing on purpose, getting up and trying again. I live for it.
