  • It is said the whiskey is the best when it is opened
It is said that girls are in their prime at the age of 18 or 22 or stupid people who defined all this
But as she ages
She gets better with everyday
She is finest when you talk to her

  • She was at the castle, with her parents who were doing research. She had coincidentally ran into a boy, similar age with her, multiple times throughout the day. He was a staff working at the castle, as apparent of his name-tag and his shirt with the word “STAFF” emblazoned on the back. But it wasn’t just the coincidences that made her look at him, it was something else, something she couldn’t quite put her finger on.
He’d seen her a couple of times that day, coincidentally running into her, but there was something about her, something so familiar about her, but he couldn’t place where he had seen her before.
They were both reading a plaque about the room they were in, her for the first time, and him for the millionth time, but he just wanted to be near to her.
A castle guide was passing through with a group of tourists explaining the hidden importance of the room.
They were inside a bedroom, a highly decorated bedroom, with a four poster bed, empty frames lined the wall, which a deep orange in colour with gold trims. Inside the bedroom, a massive bay window lay, with a perfect view of the gardens below and of the grounds beyond. “Now there is a story that goes with this room,” the guide’s voice echoes in the high ceilings, everyone is hushed listening to the story. The only other noise came from a tiny electrical fan in the corner, trying to circulate the musty hot air around.“There once was a prince who lived in this castle. Now a visiting royal family who were doing business with King and Queen of this castle. They had wanted to seal the business agreement with a wedding with the prince. However, all of the visiting family’s daughters were all married. So they suggested to have the wedding with one of their servant girls. The King and Queen of this castle were disgusted, to marry off a servant to their son? But upon meeting the servant girl, the prince fell madly in love with her. The two of them agreed to be married, as soon as possible even.

  • TAROT + WRITING PROMPT:
.
(If you love the prompt below, you’ll love our Tarot for Writers Workshop this Thursday, July 25, at 6:30pm at @brentwoodsocialhouse. $25 to register; link in our bio!)
.
To start, get quiet, get centered, and lay out your cards as you do! Choose 2 cards.
.
Card 1 represents what your character wants, or believes they want.
.
Card 2 represents what the character needs on a deeper, soul level. The character is unlikely to possess full awareness of this need. They may experience this craving as an ache or longing they can’t fully name, but they’ve transferred that need into the idea of what they want (shown in Card 1).
.
Write a scene or two in which the character expresses the more obvious, superficial want, while also revealing (to the reader) the deeper, subconscious need.
.
In the example (second photo), my character wants (or thinks she wants) to go forward with a project or journey (Page of Pentacles), but she’s holding steady, still assessing the situation, possibly trying to convince herself that this is what she wants.
.
What she needs instead are boundaries, to carve out a space of her own, and to back herself up in maintaining that territory (Seven of Wands).
.
Seeing the tension between these two cards, I imagine my character has latched on to someone else’s dream. Maybe she’s about to join a new business venture, or get married to a partner who wants to seal the deal before she’s ready, or she’s been conscripted by a friend to participate in a project that doesn’t truly serve her. I might write a scene that shows her assenting to continue with the project, while also trying to delay. Then, when alone, I try to write her sense of dread or strangeness at the thought of really going forward.
.
What cards showed up for you? What did this mean for your character? Did the writing prompt help uncover new ideas? We’d love to know! ✏️
