This is the face of a girl who just spent an amazing long weekend in Austin and oh yeah did I mention PR’ed at the 3M Austin Half Marathon this morning!?💪🏻
First let me say I don’t remember ever being that cold before a race, and I ran Chicago marathon in October🥶...Nevertheless I persevered, my hands thawed and Adam and I done did that thing. And on his birthday!! What a way to celebrate, am I right?!🥳🎉🎈
Honestly I feel like I was able to beat my previous half marathon time because I wasn’t focused on it. Adam and I hadn’t been training as much as we wanted to be but we were mainly just focused on going out, having fun and not stopping and guess what? We did that and then some!🙌🏻All the more reason for you to put your mind to something and chase that crazy dream my friends.
That was a stupid decision on her part to get pregnant.
How will she pass boards with two kids?
These are actual comments I received after I got pregnant the second time in residency.
To you, this is a simple picture of my daughter and I.
To me, this picture represents so much more than that. She represents someone telling me what I couldn’t do.
Our first child was not planned. We were very surprised (pleasantly). But during the end of my third year my husband and I made the decision to try to have another baby. I knew I would only get very limited time for maternity leave. I knew I had to have another C-section which meant a longer recovery. I knew it was a risk because it was my last year but I didn’t know what the future held after residency and we decided to try.
Savannah is now almost a year old and though it was rough with two children during those last few months we still got it done.
I graduated. On time.
I loved what @drkristamarie wrote on her most recent post titled “you can’t”
At some point in our lives I am sure we can all identify someone who told us “you can’t”
You can’t get into graduate school with your grades
You can’t have a baby in residency and graduate on time
You can’t be a doctor with a mediocre GPA
Personally, I was told in medical school that I could not have a family in an OB GYN residency. I was also told that I would have difficulty passing my boards because I had two children. There were times I let the naysayers get into my head. I would talk to @lifebytosin during board studying and tell her how much pressure I felt to pass because I had two children and I knew some of my attendings were worried about me. I would literally be breastfeeding with one hand and reading notes from the other. I went to the library for hours and hours between patient care in the month leading up to board exams.
By the grace of God He allowed me to graduate on time and pass written boards.
Stop allowing people to tell you what you can’t do
Stop allowing people to dictate your future
Don’t allow naysayers to have jurisdiction over your life because You write your own story.
And I’m here to tell you, you CAN.

I was not always comfortable with some parts of my work. Internally I pressured myself to ‘get past it’ and thought if I didn’t, well, then that really said something about me. 🙄 How quickly we default to picking on ourselves when we are uneasy. ⠀
As I observed my reluctance to move into the unfamiliar aspects of my job - I also noticed subtle habits within my practice. Was I equally unwilling to explore unfamiliar postures, actions or cues?⠀
Unraveling habit is not linear. Awareness, curiosity and attitude became my biggest teachers.... as well as a healthy dose of humor. ⠀

It’s a Monday and it’s for many, a day off. No days off when it comes to getting 💩 done though and for me, that starts with movement. .
I’ve worked hard to create a routine that makes a little sweat the kick off to my productivity. So whether it’s a workday, or a holiday, or a weekend ... I can get movement in for my body and I can allow that to jumpstart me getting things done for my day, whatever I might need to do. .
Routine. It’s what I’ve been working on and endlessly preaching here for months because I didn’t really have it. For me no 2 ‘work days’ ever look alike and it becomes easy to feel dragged into that inconsistent way of life. But I’ve learned to build consistency.
It will be hard at first but you can do it. If I can in my 40s... you can too, at whatever stage of life you are in.

You know it’s gonna be a good meal when you put your hair up before you start eating 🤪🤣. Yes, I ate this...not quite all of it, but gluten was consumed!!! 🤣🤣. It was delish and it’s all good because I have the tools to help me stay on track with my nutrition and not get derailed. A little weekend getaway has got me having a yummy cheat meal and it’s all good 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 No regrets 😁🤪

Morning Habits …the nonnegotionables ‼️
My most productive days are the ones where I don’t look at my phone 📲 for the first 30 minutes that I’m awake. I have to admit… it is challenging, especially on the days when I’m at work by 5am. ⏰ .
⚡️BUT…..you know, life happens 🤷🏼♀️. So for when it does, I have my modified morning routine. In just ten minutes you can set yourself up for success!

Make Bed 🛌
Quick Stretch 🧘♀️
Write (or review) your to do list 📝
THEN check phone/email/IG etc. 💥 .
TEN MINUTES…that’s it! .
having a “getting ready” order will help. Do you know what I mean?
When you open your eyes, can you name the things that you do for the first few minutes? Are they the same every day?
If you do things in the same order (or just he same things.....you know, we have to be flexible!) it will shorten your get ready time!⌛️
When I get up, I sit still for a minute or two. (Seriously I just lay there) I drink my entire water bottle….and then I get up. I stretch (most of the time it is a very quick stretch), I turn around and make my bed and then head off to the bathroom. Seriously. EVERY DAY.💰
Do you drink some water as soon as you get up? OR is there something else that you do first?
There is a lot of talk about January Blues today.
How are you feeling?
Me? It is just another Monday...my admin/‘mop up’ day. I don’t feel particularly different today but here is what I do when I am feeling down.
I focus on something or someone else. I divert my energy to helping someone else move forward in an area of their life.
The other things I do include taking a walk around the lake in my local park to shift my focus to appreciating nature, researching my next holiday destination, planning my spring gardening project.
All these shift my focus and boosts my mood.

Hooray for Holiday Mondays! I hope you’re enjoying a well-deserved day off! But don’t forget, Monday makes or break your week—and you don’t want to start Tuesday feeling like you’re behind. So here are my top 3 tips for making the most of your week:⠀
1. Go with the flow—your days have a lot of moving parts and pieces. Not everything goes the way you planned. So when things go off-track squeeze your flexibility muscle and look for something good that came out of it.⠀
2. Be productive.but not busy! Keep in mind that everything takes longer than you think so plan your days with enough buffer time so you won’t rush from one thing to another wondering why you can’t keep up.⠀
3. Embrace the hard stuff. It’s during those tough times when the 💩 hits the fan that you have an amazing opportunity to grow and become better than you were before.⠀

My 2020 word, #overcomer .
How do I even do justice to describing this day.
I don’t have the confidence to race or push myself to near race pace, but there is an awesome endurance race that @teamwarmup hosts every January. I hemmed and hawed about just showing up and riding my own pace & just seeing what I could do. Literally at 6:15 on Sunday morn, @disciple411 & I decided to do the race that started at 9:am. I hoped to get 3 laps of the 9 mile course. I felt good enough to do a 4th lap, a 5th lap and a 6th lap. AND ended up with a 3rd spot on the women’s podium 😳 WOW!
But the MORE awesome part is that I got to stand here with these two ladies. @carinchris is one of the most amazing athletes and humans I know and love. Jane Ziegler, the girl on the top spot was hit by a drunk driver and suffered serious injuries, a broken pelvis & lower extremities injuries. She couldn’t walk for a while.
Here we are 2 girls who have endured injuries that could have killed or paralyzed us. I can’t swim or raise my arm overhead, but I am doing what I can! This is part of living that I’ve missed for 8 months. SUCCESS! One of my goals this year is to actually use my Vitality oils! I have always flavored my water and occasionally my coffee or tea...but I am learning to use all of those other wonderful flavors! Today, I made Banana Oatmeal in the InstantPot. I added Cinnamon Bark and Nutmeg, using the chart to substitute the dry spices in the recipe. Not only did we have a tasty breakfast, but the kitchen smells heavenly!

Just putting this one out there.... Setting up my own business was a big one for me and finally I did that last year. I still don’t know if it’s going to be a long-term success, but at least I’ve put myself out there and tried. On my journey I found that it was difficult for me to trust my intuition and actively receive the silent signals of the universe when the static of my life was so loud. Doubt and fear were so predominant that I talked myself out of any sign that happened to get through.
But once I accepted all of the parts of myself that I had been rejecting, I was able to connect to my higher self and to the flow of the universe.
I trusted myself, my intuition, my wisdom.
I’ve come to believe that the first step in spiritual awareness and enlightenment is loving yourself. Deeply and completely. The happy and the sad the old and the new the dark and the light. Loving all of you. Once you except yourself as you are and still love yourself, you open a channel, you open the connection back to what you are and have been all along. Love yourself and all of the layers of what’s not you peel away. It’s a process of Un-Becoming what you’re not...the limiting misbeliefs and patterns...to find the true You that you are and have always been. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
