I could totally join a traditional German carnival group as "Funkenmariechen"-dancer with my Yoga gymnastics skills, right? 😂😂😂
To be honest: Yoga can seem a bit like a freak show and circus 🤡 And of course: It is so much fun to bend and twist and push and pull your body in shapes. To flow through Vinyasa (with/out music). To sweat on your mat and get out of your head. To feel your heart beat, the power and energy in your muscles and how your breath works to support your moves.
But then again, Yoga can go even deeper than shown in any pictures. If you wish.
Yoga for me is reconnectig with myself. The Self. Or non-self. I am still studying what that even means.
It's been a very interesting ride so far. And along with it came aforementioned mad posing skills 🤣 let's see when that might come in handy 😜😆🤪 Any suggestions?

I'm trying to listen to my body more nowadays, and when I woke up this morning my body said, "Please, please don't try and make me do that yoga challenge thing today." So, I listened and took the day off (will be back on tomorrow). I'm just late for a #tbt , but here's a fun #throwback to one of my favorite pole moments -- #streetpoling on Bedford Ave in Brooklyn, the summer before I got MOM-ified, 2017. Feels like a million years ago. Also makes me have a very deep respect for people who can pole wearing clothes (like magnuslabbe and his trademark cutoff shorts!) It's not easy!! If anything makes me miss #nyc (and sorry to say, not much really does, besides my pals out there), it's summer things like this, and missing my fave pole and yoga studios in BK. #yogaeveryotherday

A day late, but day 2️⃣8️⃣, the last(!) day of #legsformiles with cyogalife is this floating #toetaps variation of #uttanasana , or #forwardfold . Toe-taps, and the subsequent press-up into handstand, are at the top of my #goals list. I'm so glad I listened to my body and waited until it was ready today to try this, because I made progress! I had lift-off! Still barely one second of airtime, but long enough to get a screen shot at least. 🙌
Also, I realized that it was almost exactly a year ago that I first tried this, to very disheartened results (swipe➡️). Yay for progress, especially post-baby. 🎉
(Yes, I'm leveraging against the wall with my head, which I learned is more helpful for me than with my back side, as in the second slide.)

Recently I've been talking more about body awareness in classes. Giving students a minute at the start to find their own movements to get their bodies ready for class. Some may find this sense of freedom a little strange and may find alot of uncertainty about how to open up their own bodies. So to those I say it's ok, that familiarity and conversation with your bodies will come in time. I also found myself saying to take time each day to check in with our bodies and just make simple movements. But do I even do that, another voice says to me in my head.
So I started doing #yogaeverydamnday . To get on the mat, with little to no planning, just allowing the feelings, tightnes, sensations in my body, mind and heart to lead the practice. It ends up different-ish everyday, cos everyday I feel different. This morning's practice I knew I needed some healing/recovery. Naturally, my body found the familiar shapes from yoga therapy, slow stretches and pranayama. Was gonna end the session singing the mantra 3 times like yesterday, but a song came up on the playlist that I couldn't resist grooving with 😊
It took me long enough to realise this. 😂 Well, I hope this sparks your interest to find your own routine, with the intention of checking in with yourself. It doesn't have to be physical, it can be simply noticing your breath. It can even be #yogaeveryotherday for a start 😉🙏🏻

I have no good excuse this time, except that I straight up forgot all day yesterday, and by the time I remembered I had already ordered a margarita.🍹
So! Day 2️⃣4️⃣ of #legsformiles with @cyogalife was that old nemesis of getting the foot behind the head, and THEN balancing on your hands, aka chakorasana. HA! I'm sort of coming to terms with the fact that I may just never get my feet behind my head and maybe that's ok. I'm sure there are many people who live full and happy lives without putting their feet behind their heads. So here is @yogawithaislinn 's modification again, #fourcornerpose . I took a cue from her and tried to look like I didn't hate it. Did it work?
Day 2️⃣5️⃣ is #laghuvajrasana , or #thunderboltpose . I've never tried this one, and I almost didn't try it because I was feeling tired/intimidated/lazy. I'm glad I did because I got closer than I thought I would. I'm also glad I decided to relocate to the carpeted living room beforehand, as that little drop onto my head might not have been so fun on the deck. Getting down wasn't so bad, actually...getting back up is another story, for another day. #yogaalmosteveryday#postpartumyoga#postpartumfitness

OMG! I am so excited! After 3.5 months of grinding away, I finally released my new website! Honestly it felt like an art project mixed with a memoir, mixed with a business venture. I missed my deadline 3 times, I literally developed a pattern of grinding my teach (working to release that tension in the next few months), and my neck hurts from staring at a computer...I need to do yoga 😂 The other day I realized that “no one” is really going to care about the website, or appreciate it in comparison for the amount of work I put into it. It was a sad moment but than I realized I have learned so much in the process and I now can proceed with releasing online tutorials and blogs on there and I won’t cringe sending people to them 😅 So, clearly I am seeking some validation and celebration 🎉 Please check it out, if you don’t like it don tell me till next month, but if there are issues with it send them my way so I can fix them. I have two bad knees and a fucked up shoulder and I owe it all to dumb shit like this. Not that this particular shape is dumb (Well that’s up for debate too) but my attachment to forcing myself into shapes without the actual range of motion to do them is. It’s all a learning process, and most of us wouldn’t be here questioning and reevaluating and reinventing this shit if we hadn’t done it. I haven’t practiced this pose in a long time. This pic is old, but my last time was a few months ago and the teacher was nice enough to step on my foot to hold it in place as I cranked that damn leg out and twisted my heart to the all knowing stars ⭐️ An assist I have given many times. Adductors are not to be used here for any reason ! 😂😂😂Maybe one day I’ll be able to do it again without holding my foot! 🤔 That would really be something 😃 But I bet I’ll gain a lot of followers that don’t read this comment. These are examples off the top of my head where I believe some of you are 'talented' in & some of you could use some more persistence. ;)

Which one is the bigger deeper stretch? Looks alone —> the top one, but there’s not much going on beyond the aesthetic. what you can’t see in the second pic is the inner workings of muscle and tendon over bone and the engagement of my glutes and anterior core providing an active “bigger” stretch down the front of my hip and thigh muscles. What the top picture conveys the bottom picture feels. Let's check the meaning of going deeper. 🌀
Nothing wrong with a passive stretch, but if you practice yoga for the long term and have a lot of range to sink forward into your hip capsule the stretch is probably focused to a small, ligamentous area at your hip crease. To stretch more of the stuff on the front of that hip and leg - dial back, engage your butt and draw your front ribs down. 💪
Sometimes the answer to a feeling of tightness is less stretching, more strengthening (longer story for another post). See how it feels to use your muscles when you stretch. It's easy to be caught in the pain and think doubtful thoughts and eventually talk yourself out of something.
Trust me. As long as you keep doing the work, and be present (which is way more important), magic will show up.
Yoga is a journey. My progress started to be more noticeable when I let go of the part of myself that wants to hit the goal. :)) Same with meditation. As soon as I let go of the expectation to be a master meditator, the effect of meditation started to reveal itself in my life.
Whatever you're doing, learn to love the process, not the goal. :) ❤️ Much love

Every panic attack is an opportunity for you to survive🐒 .
Lately, my throat feels like it’s getting swollen and closing up and then I’ll start freaking out that I won’t be able to breathe.. and then after like 4 minutes of surviving, im like “okay, if I couldn’t breathe, I would have died by now” and then I overcome my panic and get on with my life.

This week’s classes were about clearing the clutter, creating space, choosing what’s really needed and purging what’s not. Trusting. We explored movements that rinsed, opened, simplified and amplified. Cuz clarity. Clutter is anything that gets in the way of what really matters. Home practice informs me greatly. Listening. Observing. Feeling. Moving. Letting go. Embracing what’s truly PRESENT. Feels so damn good. And so did my 5 mile run this am with @tribedog and my swim with Addie! A good day for activity.
