  • Strong or flexible. I mean, you realistically definitely need a balance. 😊 But strong or flexible...if you had to pick one, what would you choose? I think pre-injury I was working too much on flexibility. I used to lift at the gym, but after my foot surgery I couldn’t lift for a while. I kind of fell away from the gym and didn’t pick up a good home strengthening regimen. And looking back now, I believe that was definitely a contributing factor to my initial shoulder injury. I wanted to work on advanced flexibility, and wasn’t putting enough time into basic mobility and strengthening. Don’t ever doubt the importance of the “basics.” I made mistakes that I tell you about so you don’t make them too. 😉 When I first got injured I was afraid to talk about my shoulder injury, because I worried some might judge me for not being mindful. Because I was mad at myself! But this community has been so amazing and encouraging! ❤️❤️ I continue to share my journey in hopes that it will save others from making the mistakes I did. 😊🙏🏻

  • Under Pressure
I didn’t realize how much I used to feel under pressure from all those incredible flexible and bendy insta yogis on here. 
I used to admire them and follow then, feeling convinced they don’t have an impact on me, on my practice. 
And then I hurt my legs. And they wouldn’t heal for years. Years!!! And it was so frustrating (sometimes still is). But I didn’t care about the pain or my health. All I cared about was that I wasn’t able to take “impressive pictures” anymore. Looking back, I think I never healed because my body wasn’t ready to. My body didn’t want to heal just to be tortured again. I forced myself into poses I wasn’t ready- just for the picture. I sometimes still do and oh how I regret it the day after. I let go of my ego a lot! I’m not perfect at all- hahaha helllll nooo- but I let go A LOT! I see all my friends rocking new poses all the time and yes sometimes it hurts that I cannot really work on my split anymore. But what I gained is this new sacred practice of mine. Practicing without any other goal then to listen to my body. Just doing whatever feels good. Yes I’m a lazy butt and I probably should start incorporating core exercises more just to gain more strength. It’s always a balance of being too eager or too lazy. Especially for me. 
But I’m happy about the shift I got to make. Every now and then, when people hear that I do yoga, they ask me to do “a pose”. Like if I was some kind of a circus clown. Which I’m not. Not for some stranger, nor for the camera. 
I’m not sure where this insta yoga thing is taking me. For now it’s fine, I take it a lot easier than I used to and definitely need more breaks from it than I used to. But I also connected with so many humans that I’ll be forever grateful no matter what.
