The full moon itself brings a point of climax, as the culmination of energies and emotions that have been developing throughout the lunar cycle become palpable. 
And while the full moon itself may only last for a day, its effects can be felt for a couple days before and after it occurs.

Tonight’s Full Moon is in Aquarius and the ceremony will be led by myself and @freedohm_yoga ✨
Aquarius ( which is also my zodiac sign) is ruled by the thoughtful, intellectual element of air (not water), while passionate, glowing fire rules over the sign of Leo.

During a full moon, the sun is always resting in the opposite sign than that of the moon. This month, the opposing sun will be resting in fiery Leo. This aspect brings together the agreeable and conflicting forces of both the analytical Aquarius and the heart-driven Leo.

Ceremony starts at 18:45 - 20:30.

  • Surrender... all signs point to surrender. let it go, let it in, and continue the cycle. // had a self care session with @phiroozeh yesterday (big moon energy!) as a wonderful end to a day of shifting. I felt so relaxed and comfortable, and I surrendered to the unknown what the experience would bring, how I’d feel, and also how do crystals work 🧐. Phi made me feel very well taken care of and her mix of yoga movements, reiki, massage (and crystals obvi) grounded me and made me feel worthy. If you’re looking for a QTPOC-centered healer, head over to @phiroozeh!

For so long, living life felt like a chore.

Internally, I was depressed, struggling with an eating disorder, at a job that gave me anxiety, underpaid, coping from sexual abuse, my love life was stagnant and I was angry for no damn reason.

Externally, I wore the mask of the counselor, the greatest granddaughter, the supportive best friend, the mentor, and a strong black woman.

I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I craved the opportunity to pour into myself the way I poured into others.

I wanted to give myself a chance. I said "my peace means more than a paycheck". I solicited @_plantedyogi as my personal yoga teacher because I knew learning how to be with self would put me on the track to live my most authentic life. Not to mention, I wanted to use what I learned from him to strengthen my morning meditation practice.

This Sunday we are coming together in Houston from 10am-2pm for

Center | Chat | Brunch

1. One hour of yoga
2. One hour Journey Circle
3. Plant Based Brunch

It worked for me, maybe it will work for you.

#BeginAgainYogaChallenge Day 5: Low Crescent Lunge

Honestly, take your low lunge and be creative lol. If that’s staying forward, cool. If it’s bending back and grabbing your foot, more power to ya lol. No matter what you choose, be conscious of the different stretches you feel across your body and how that stretch may connect to the types of poses you want to get better at. Build up from here.

How to option (because I don’t too much care for the video I added lol):
Slide your back knee on the ground as far back as is comfortable. Keeping your front leg bent, lift your chest up and raise your arms to the ceiling.

Alignment
Press your hips forward, and keep your front knee pointing straight forward and in line above your ankle. Square your hips so both hip bones are pointing forward. Engage your core. Lift your sternum to activate a slight back bend, but avoid crunching down into your back. Reach your arms high, and have the palms of the hands facing one another. Keep your shoulders pressed down.
Beginner Tips
* Ensure that your front knee aligns straight over your ankle.
* Keep your belly button pulled into your back to avoid crunching your spine.
* Avoid overarching your back — only arch as far back as is comfortable, and always keep your abs engaged as you do this. [From Openfit.com] .

  • Feels nice to be back into my practice. I spent 6 weeks without yoga, running, or any extreme working out because of my foot injury. 😅 This was a short session today because I didn’t want to overdo it, but I was satisfied 🤗. At least for now! Lol

  • Did you know I have a spinal curve and one deaf ear? Did you know I’ve had my appendix taken out and I split my tongue in half when I was young? Did you know I’ve witnessed gang violence and been sexually assaulted? Did you know that’s what led me to being a drunk party girl for almost my entire 20’s? Nothing is ever as it seems, the things a human being can witness and experience in a lifetime is enough to make anyone go crazy. You can’t pretend to know what’s happening with a person simply because on the outside they seem “normal”. Being a trauma informed teacher gives me the ability to see past what someone appears to look like and teach in a way that doesn’t cause more harm. People are dealing with all sorts of issues, we can’t assume everything is fine. So you may see me in this pose and think everything is good. Trust me, I have to find ways of coping with physical limitations and trauma. I no longer get drunk to heal but I still have to manage cravings. It’s a daily practice for me to remember to breathe deeply when I don’t want to get out of bed. You may be struggling with your own stuff, know you’re capable of getting through it. You’re strong and worthy of so much more than pain can ever give you. You have lifetimes of ancestors rooting for you, opening paths for you to cross through. You have grace, and class, and dignity no matter what has happened to you. You’re a child of the universe, remember your value. 💛

  • I got to practice under a sky so blue I wanted to dive into it!  I was looking up from my supine twists and the clouds seem close enough to touch.  Every now and then a salty ocean breeze would cascade by reminding me to breathe.  It seems simple and it is but it was everything I needed!✨

For the past few months (maybe more) I’ve had the most severe “blocks” in my practice.  As a yoga instructor and a semi-ashtangi I fret over where I “should” be in my practice or what it “should” look like.  I know it goes against everything I say in my classes but I’m human 🤷🏿‍♀️ I’ve felt like I’ve completely regressed in a lot of areas I’ve worked on opening and strengthening in my body.  These blocks started to manifest on my physical body via injury, acne, weight gain, anxiety, and depression.✨

This weekend I went to Turks & Caicos for a bachelorette party and of course to teach a class!! Due to the nature of the weekend 😏 I knew I needed to practice at least once...maybe 2x.  I walked onto my mat kinda not wanting to 
but knowing my body needed it.  Instead of going through primary series or my regular warm up routine I let my body do what it wanted and I LISTENED.  I heard all the cracks and pops of the bones😳, I felt the tightness of the muscles and the stiffness of the joints😟. I felt the aches of torn tendons, ligaments, and the overused lopsidedness of my entire body. 😫

I NEEDED THIS! It was a big reminder of my strength and it was the best practice I’ve had in a long time!  I realized that a big portion of my practice has been opening and strengthening in a way that doesn’t totally agree with my body.  The aches and pains are the result of the “should.” because I was strong enough to get into an arm balance I did but rarely ever in a way that made sense for the existing conditions going on in my body.  Moving in a way that makes sense for my body SHOULD be my practice. When you tune into yourself you find the answers are within.✨
  • I got to practice under a sky so blue I wanted to dive into it! I was looking up from my supine twists and the clouds seem close enough to touch. Every now and then a salty ocean breeze would cascade by reminding me to breathe. It seems simple and it is but it was everything I needed!✨

    For the past few months (maybe more) I’ve had the most severe “blocks” in my practice. As a yoga instructor and a semi-ashtangi I fret over where I “should” be in my practice or what it “should” look like. I know it goes against everything I say in my classes but I’m human 🤷🏿‍♀️ I’ve felt like I’ve completely regressed in a lot of areas I’ve worked on opening and strengthening in my body. These blocks started to manifest on my physical body via injury, acne, weight gain, anxiety, and depression.✨

Liberation from the cycles of reincarnation, from the dualistic nature of the material world, enlightenment, release. THIS IS THE GOAL OF OUR YOGA PRACTICE. And today’s full moon in Aquarius is all about personal, spiritual, emotional freedom. .
The Aquarius-Leo axis asks us to explore where personal freedom and the freedom of the group intersect. If we empower ourselves, we can use our bolstered energy to be better advocates and leaders for those who need us. We are being called to dissolve intellectual line between ourselves and “the other”-because there is no “other.” Another beings sufferings, joy, triumphs, disappointments, and loves are also ours...and we are called in this expression of matter to be vessels. To hold space for all these fluctuations. And to do our best to raise our individual and collective energy for the good of all. .
We are acting from a place of empowerment. Now is not the time to doubt your gifts. EVERYONE has something to contribute, and we are GLOWING UP COLLECTIVELY. Don’t fear what’s coming next, because the ground is fertile. .
I feel particularly honored to be able to hold space for everyone coming to my retreat this weekend. The energy feels auspicious and it is my deepest gratitude to create space for students to fill their cup. BLESSED FULL MOON BBS! .

  • Yoga bloopers 😂 the not so graceful side that doesn’t get shown on social media very often. It just so happened @laniloveslove and I were both recording and we got my fall from two different angles.

I wish I could tell you that I’m graceful all the time and always in a flow state, but that’s just not the case. I’ve been teaching yoga for about a year now, and while I’ve improved tremendously, there are often times where I feel like a complete beginner. Some of the yogis in my classes have been practicing longer or are more flexible than I am. But, none of that matters because yoga isn’t a competition. It’s a practice and everyone is at a different stage on their journey. •

At the end of the day, you’ve gotta be able to laugh, especially at yourself. None of us are perfect, and pretending to be on social media (or whatever avenue it may be) isn’t fooling anyone, yourself included.  To be flawed is to be human- embrace your imperfections and love every piece of yourself. It’s okay to mess up. Mistakes are how we learn and grow, so don’t be afraid to fail- pick yourself up, integrate the lesson, and try again. Much love, y’all 🙏🏽🙌🏽💕❤️

#BeginAgainYogaChallenge Day 5: Low Crescent Lunge

Honestly, take your low lunge and be creative lol. If that’s staying forward, cool. If it’s bending back and grabbing your foot, more power to ya lol. No matter what you choose, be conscious of the different stretches you feel across your body and how that stretch may connect to the types of poses you want to get better at. Build up from here.

How to option (because I don’t too much care for the video I added lol):
Slide your back knee on the ground as far back as is comfortable. Keeping your front leg bent, lift your chest up and raise your arms to the ceiling.

Alignment
Press your hips forward, and keep your front knee pointing straight forward and in line above your ankle. Square your hips so both hip bones are pointing forward. Engage your core. Lift your sternum to activate a slight back bend, but avoid crunching down into your back. Reach your arms high, and have the palms of the hands facing one another. Keep your shoulders pressed down.
Beginner Tips
* Ensure that your front knee aligns straight over your ankle.
* Keep your belly button pulled into your back to avoid crunching your spine.
* Avoid overarching your back — only arch as far back as is comfortable, and always keep your abs engaged as you do this. [From Openfit.com] .
