Joao looks like he smiling right? This is actually the Flehmen response. Tigers have an organ called the Jacobson organ which acts like another sense in between smell and taste. They use Flehmen for territory marking and mating 🐯🐅
Here are a couple more animals from the Toronto Zoo. If you haven’t been to the Toronto Zoo, it is a place to see and experience. Make sure to be prepared to walk and don’t for get to get their map. You’ll need it. This zoo is a whopping 287 hectares or about 709 acres. It even has Splash Island for the family during for those hot summer days. I really enjoyed their exhibits and the different species of animals they have. However, most of them were in lazy mode due to the heat.🌞 It was in the mid to upper 80s and a bit muggy as well.😓 While some of the enclosures/exhibits may seem small for the animals in it, the Toronto Zoo is in the midst of enhancing the overall experience of humans and improving the animals’ living conditions. Looking forward to seeing the fruit of their revitalization. I’ll definitely be back...since I missed the Amur tigers and the cheetahs.
The first photo is the T’Zoo’s spotted hyena. I was surprised to see them a lot bigger than how I see them on TV. They were very intimidating and I’m glad there was a barrier between me and this animal.😁 The second photo is a couple of Red river hogs. I have never seen these hogs before. Their orange color is more vivid in person.
