There was a heavy police presence in Portland as members of the Proud Boys and other far-right groups were separated from from far-left, anti-fascist activists at a downtown park Saturday, avoiding violent clashes that have marred earlier confrontations.⠀
Although the day was largely peaceful, police said they did seize weapons such as metal and wooden poles, bear spray and shields from demonstrators, and at least three people were arrested.⠀

Ed Smart, the father of kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart, came out as gay in a letter for family and friends posted to Facebook and said he and his wife are separating. In 2002, then 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her home in Salt Lake City and held captive for nine months. She has since become an advocate for kidnapping and sexual assault survivors.
